The Opera Grill, Chester

A girls day out last week involved a meal at The Opera Grill on Pepper Street. Located in a grade 2 listed building with a Greek frontage, our aim was to sit on the roof terrace in the sunshine.

The Roof Terrace

We were taken upstairs to the terrace where unfortunately it had gotten a little cloudy. But after a few hours in the heat already it was actually a nice relief, with a slight breeze coming through the sidings. We were that table that takes forever to order drinks, so by the time we were ready we ordered our drinks and food all at once. The menu was pretty extensive so it was quite hard to narrow it down, especially when you’re as greedy as me. For starters I chose Crispy duck spring rolls. My friends chose Hummus with pita bread, Ham with buffalo ricotta and Sweet potato and chorizo croquettes. We all enjoyed our starters. My spring rolls were crispy and packed with duck and the hummus portion was enormous.

The seafood options on the menu were really good so for my mains I chose Crab ravioli with chilli and basil. Again, the others enjoyed Linguine with King Prawns, Skewered chicken souvlaki and Risotto with asparagus, broad beans and peas. I particularly enjoyed my ravioli as they were unbelievably light and really flavourful. The souvlaki also went down a treat. The linguine and risotto were polished off but were nothing to rave about. Or so I was told 😂

Now it gets awkward. I really really wanted a dessert. I was still hungry as my main was so light. But could we get the waiters attention, no we could not. With a booking at a bar coming up I was running out of time and even though it wasn’t massively busy we couldn’t get anyone’s attention. Soooooo, I went without. We paid and carried on with our evening. Dessert-less.

Overall though, a great looking venue, a massive, varied menu and who needs a dessert anyway hey. More room for cocktails 🍹
