Located on Cuppin Street, Moules A Go-Go is an independent bar, cafe and bistro that specialises in fresh mussels that come from suppliers in The Menai Straits and the West coast of Scotland. We used to dine here frequently when they were located on the historic Chester Rows but had a bad meal here when they moved and never went back. But I’m so glad we did this time!
Our server Sarah was brilliant in explaining the gluten and dairy free options available to Steve. As a smaller restaurant substitutions were easy and he had a great selection to choose from. We even started with a glass of Prosecco each to start the Bank holiday weekend.
We began with an Oyster each, served with red wine vinegar and shallots. We did take photos of us eating them but wow they weren’t good 🤣 then to start I went for a Pomegranate, Pecan, Kale and Feta salad with a lemon tahini dressing. I didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did but it was lovely. Steve went for Pan fried prawns with garlic and chorizo and ate them so fast I barely got to see them. High praise indeed.

You can’t come to Moules A Go-Go and not have mussels. Especially if you are shellfish lovers like we are. They come in whopping 1kg portions with bread or chips and there are loads of flavours to choose from. Steve went for the Kimchi Pot. The mussels came in a broth of chilli and ginger, tomato, gochujang, and Korean style cabbage. I went for the Blue Pot. My mussels were covered in Blue cheese with brandy, cream, mustard, leeks, celery and onion.

After eating these lovely pots of shellfish we were pretty full but I still asked for the dessert menu. I am a foodie after all. I wasn’t too fussed until I spotted a supplier of brownies that I recognised and have bought from before. So I went for the Torta Chester salted caramel chocolate brownie, with toffee sauce and salted caramel ice cream 😳

Steve enjoyed a mango sorbet for dessert before we asked for the bill. Overall this was a great meal with really knowledgeable and helpful staff. Steve was really well looked after and I’d highly recommend this spot for anyone with food intolerances. The food was tasty and fresh and came really quickly too. It’s dog friendly and has a nice atmosphere as well as some fabulous cocktails. We will be back!
