Leaf, West Kirby

Leaf started out as a small business in Liverpool with the aim of bringing quality loose leaf tea to the city. After expanding, evolving and growing they now boast a building on Bold Street in the city centre, on Smithdown Road and on Blackhorse Hill in West Kirby. Offering locally sourced food, a massive tea menu, music nights, quiz nights and everything in between, myself and two friends visited for brunch.

We were seated quickly and I of course looked to the tea menu first. With over 60 speciality teas stocked I still went for the boring old English Breakfast. I obviously like to play it safe 🤣

Now the main menu was pretty huge. Soup, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, pastas, pies the lot. The ladies I was with both chose the pork and leek sausage sandwich with wholegrain mustard mayonnaise and an onion confit from this menu..,,

I chose from the separate little brunch menu and went for Halloumi and avocado on griddled sourdough, with two poached eggs, vine tomatoes and sumac…

An unnecessary slice of cake

The food was delicious and hearty and went down a treat. For dessert two of us had a slice of Pistachio and Blueberry Bakewell Cake. The texture of this one was a little odd, very like Baklava but with a pastry base. My friend enjoyed it more than me but serves me right for ordering cake when I didn’t need to haha.

Overall, this place had a lovely chilled atmosphere, the staff were fab and it’s dog friendly too. The menu is huge (I forgot to ask if they stocked gluten free bread🤦🏻‍♀️) and there’s a big variety. If you love tea like I do this is also the place to go! I’ll be more adventurous next time and try something I don’t recognise the name of. I’m off to Liverpool a few times in the next month so maybe I’ll pop into one of their other restaurants and give them a go. I’m sure I won’t be disappointed.
