The Grace Arms, Ellesmere Port

I have known The Grace Arms on Stanney Road for most of my life, but have not visited in nearly two decades. Owned by Greene King Pubs, the location closed in November 2022 for refurbishment. After a six figure investment it then reopened as a Flaming Grill, with a brand new food menu, new decor and a much brighter interior. I was invited along to give the new menu a go. I took a friend for a Galentines Day treat🥰

I’ll start by saying that the menu is absolutely enormous. Almost too big, because how are you supposed to choose? Everything from flame grilled steaks and burgers to classics such as scampi and pie. So after receiving our drinks, the difficult task of picking our meal began…..

For starters we went for Grilled Halloumi soft tacos, filled with salad leaves, spicy mayo, pico de gallo and fresh coriander. Plus eight Jack Daniel’s BBQ sauce chicken wings. All delicious and in huge portions.

Our starters. Halloumi tacos and BBQ wings
Signature Smoked Chicken Burger
Chick N Mix Platter

For my main I went for the Signature Smoked Chicken Burger. A southern fried chicken fillet topped with pulled and smoked piri piri chicken, smoked streaky bacon and Philly cheese. This came with chips and onion rings and although being spicier than I expected, was very much enjoyed. The chicken was crispy and the chips were perfect.

My friend chose the Chick N Mix. For this you can choose two chicken items, two sides and a sauce. She went for Mango Chilli Chicken Thighs, Chicken Strips, corn on the cob, baked beans in BBQ sauce and as a sauce we decided on the absolutely mad sounding Sour Cherry Cola sauce. But you know what, we both tried it and both really enjoyed it. Particularly with the chicken strips I felt it was a bit like when you add maple syrup to fried chicken. The sweetness really worked and you really could taste sour cherry sweets as an aftertaste.

Then finally onto desserts. We decided upon two that we could share. We went for the Apple Sundae Jar. Sweet apple filling, custard and a shortbread crumb layered with vanilla ice cream, salted caramel sauce and squirty cream. Then onto the Funfair Sundae Jar. Popcorn layered with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, squirty cream, salted caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, and topped with a cream doughnut and candy floss. Both were gorgeous to look at and yummy to eat. I particularly enjoyed the apple one as I’m a huge apple pie and custard fan. A sweet end to a a flamin good meal 😜

Apple and Funfair Sundae Jars

A great family friendly and dog friendly venue in Ellesmere Port, with lovely staff and yummy grub. All at a very reasonable price too. What’s not to like?
