Twenty First Amendment, Hoylake

The Bar Front

I’d heard good things about this speakeasy bar in Hoylake, and was excited when they said they could do a roast dinner suitable for Steve and his food intolerances. And to hear it was also dog friendly was an added bonus.

So we drove up, found parking easily, and walked the dogs down to this spot on the corner. We were seated quickly and the waitress was straight away completely ‘on it’ with the food intolerances. She already had a list of what could be adapted and what couldn’t and honestly, this was fabulous. The dogs were made welcome and we ordered.

The dogs choosing their dish

We chose the two courses for £21 option and both went for a starter and dessert. For starters I went for the KFC- Korean Fried Chicken. Glazed in garlic, soy and honey, and sprinkled with pickled radish, this was a delight. Slightly spicy and lovely and oozey I devoured this dish. The gluten and dairy free option was a huge bowl of Red Pepper Hummus, with garlic oil and gluten free bread. This was also happily devoured.

Our starters

For mains, you choose a meat then get a sharing platter of veg. I went for the Free Range Chicken from Shropshire, roasted in lemon and thyme butter. Steve went for the Slow Roasted Welsh Lamb Shoulder, studded with rosemary and garlic.

To share we then got roast potatoes, heritage carrots, sticky balsamic braised red cabbage and cauliflower. The Cheshire Cheddar cauliflower Cheese, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and gravy was only suitable for me. Unfortunately they couldn’t provide a gluten and dairy free sauce for Steve but were very interested to hear how we deal with this at home (GF gravy granules, vegan butter etc) Luckily the veg was all that juicy that Steve still very much enjoyed his meal.

My Roast Chicken
Veggies

I’d definitely return. I loved the vibe in here, so relaxed and friendly. The food was delicious and I’d be interested to try the regular menu. The staff were fab and we all had a great time. Big thumbs up.
