I was kindly invited to The Lion in the lovely Cheshire village of Malpas to sample their Farmers Afternoon Tea recently. I was lucky enough to be able to stay the night there too, enabling me to give breakfast a go aswell! The building itself dates back to the 16th century and is right in the heart of the village.
On arrival I was greeted by very friendly staff and noted the recently, very well done refurbishment of the interior. Typically, as I was there to take photos I asked for a table with great light, so I was seated at the rear of the building which was indeed bright and airy. I’d decided to eat before checking in and with cup of tea in hand, I was a very happy lady.

Seated in the sunny rear of the building I prepared for a feast. The Farmers Tea at £30pp includes:
🍔 BBQ brisket sliders, brioche bun, English mustard mayo and pickled cucumber
🥚 Scotch eggs with apple ketchup
🥪 Smoked salmon & cream cheese open sandwiches 🧀 Cheese scones with oak smoked Cheshire cheese and chutney
🍋 Lemon tarts and brownie bites
☕️ Unlimited Yorkshire tea or Farrah’s coffee
The food was stunning and yes I managed to eat almost all of it! It was for two people after all. The burgers were to die for and the scotch eggs were nicely spiced. The scones had a huge wedge of cheese inside and I do love a good pickle. The sweets were gorgeous too. The staff were kind enough to wrap the remainder up for me to take away for midnight snacks but honestly, if there were two of you, there’d not be a scrap left.

I’m always happy when I’ve got a cup of tea in hand so this was a gorgeous way to spend my afternoon. Highly recommended for anyone who loves afternoon tea ‘with a twist’. They offer traditional afternoon tea aswell and I bet that is just as stunning.
The room was comfy and well equipped too. A lovely space to sleep with a full tummy! Some of the 16 rooms are suitable for your furry doggo friends too. I’d love to go back but with the rest of the family.

Breakfast in the morning was a joy too. With a small table including cereal and cold drinks, a very varied hot breakfast menu is available too. Being extremely full still, I just opted for a simple bowl of porridge, but even this was delicious. The same staff from the day before made me just as welcome as I sat there for a good few hours drinking tea whilst awaiting my lift home.

Thanks to everyone who made this day possible and made it equally as delightful 🥰 a big thumbs up from me, what an experience
