Nua Thai, Heswall

on

Are you ready to see some of the tastiest food I’ve found on the Wirral so far? Right opposite the train station in a little row of shops is the unassuming Nua Thai. Honestly, this was completely unexpected, even after hearing it was some people’s go to takeaway.

I’m not big on Thai food as I’m a huge spice wimp, but the menu was huge (not always a good sign), the restaurant interior was welcoming, and obviously I was in great company.

Starters, left clockwise, dumplings, chicken wings, corn cakes

We took our time ordering as there was so much to choose from, but we went for Thai Pork and prawn dumplings, Garlic and pepper wings and corn cakes to start. When they arrived we were just taken aback by the portion sizes, wow! The dumplings were my choice and they were huge. I’d also like to say that the plating was just gorgeous too, with shaped veggie flowers and a pretty salad. It took us quite a long time to eat our starters but they were very much enjoyed.

Then onto the mains….

Phad Peaw-Wan which is Thai style Sweet and Sour. Goong Nua Giant King Prawns marinated in garlic, with sticky rice and Gang Phed Ped Yang which is a special roasted duck in a red curry, with coconut rice.

Just look at it…….

Our main meals with giant prawns in the foreground

And I promise I won’t start ranting but it was incredibly good. Packed with flavour and plates licked clean. The prawns were mine and I just went hands in in the end. I could hold the butterflied prawns by the tails and just chomp on them. The others were a bit more civilised haha. I chose a less spicy main and I’m glad I did as it was delicious. Who knew deep fried garlic was so good hey. The prawns were meaty and fresh too, it was all so fresh actually that I’d visit again in a heartbeat.

We enjoyed coffees and Coconut Pandan Pancakes to finish. And chatted until past closing time whoops. What lovely staff to just let us carry on.

A fabulous evening with fabulous food. I won’t forget it quickly.
