Cinnamon is a spice that comes from the branches of trees of the Cinnamomum family and I for one am a massive fan.
I enjoy it in both sweet and savoury dishes and it most definitely is not just for Christmas time.
Late last year I happened across a small, independent business online called Sweet Doris and have since become cinnamon obsessed. This business specialises in ‘cinnamon buns with a twist’ using all organic ingredients where it can and has recently been branching out into other cinnamon related products. Now usually they would appear at markets and food festivals but with 2020 being such a weird old year they began posting their bakes.
Back in October soon after coming across their Instagram page I ordered a mixed box of four buns to try. These were the Classic cinnamon, Caramel pecan, Lemon raspberry and Lotus Biscoff. You can tell from the photos below how delicious they were. The dough was beautifully soft and the toppings were not only unique but irresistible. They didn’t last long in this house.

Then for Christmas I decided to order a cinnamon bun sharer, which consisted of six buns baked and attached together (like an tear and share) with a few pots of scrummy cream cheese icing to drizzle over. I warmed this up on Christmas Day morning and we ate in a cinnamon fuelled haze whilst the Turkey cooked. It was divine. And since there was fewer of us than normal we didn’t have to do as much sharing!
Now this week I have tried two of Sweet Doris’ new products. The Apple crumble bun is made with stewed apples and is topped with crumble. I warmed this up in the microwave and not only did the house smell stunning it was beyond what I’d expected. All it needed was a bowl of custard to go with it!

The Caramel cinnamon popcorn is literally popcorn smothered in caramel with a gorgeous cinnamon flavour. It is unbelievably moreish and where a few pieces have stuck together it’s lovely and chewy.

As we’re all in lockdown yet again these little businesses need our support to survive. Receiving things through the post is literally the best thing that has happened to me in my almost a year of shielding. I’d definitely recommend checking these guys out, you will not be disappointed. Especially if you love cinnamon like I do!
I just can’t wait to see what other fabulous cinnamon goodies Sweet Doris comes up with!
