Ring O’ Bells, Daresbury

This pretty little Cheshire pub is steeped in history, owing to the fact is used to be part of Daresburys courthouse in the 19th century. With original features and a plethora of hanging baskets you wouldn’t know you were so close to a busy road. Yes it’s another Chef and Brewer but myself and some old work colleagues chose here to meet for dinner and drinks.

After parking in the (slightly awkward) car park we wandered in and were seated pretty promptly by the friendly staff. All Covid restrictions were followed and we weren’t all bunched up with lots of other diners. Then it was time to order. Yes it was the same menu as the Hinderton from a few weeks ago but as it was a weekday I got to choose off the regular menu. No roast dinners today!

Korean Bbq chicken strips with pickled red onion

For my starter I went with the new Korean Bbq chicken strips. These were sweet and delicious but what an enormous serving! Didn’t stop me eating the lot though. The others chose the Salt and pepper squid and the creamy garlic mushrooms and everyone enjoyed their food. Albeit with large glasses of wine and lots of chit chat.

By the time we were ready for mains I was already pretty full of chicken but I’d ordered the pub classic hand battered Atlantic Cod and chips. My friend had also poked me to order the little extra scampi and buttered bread to come with it too. What was I thinking 🤣. When it arrived it was a enormous as expected, but it was delicious. Really good chips and tartare sauce, and juicy fish in a crunchy batter. You can’t go wrong with fish and chips really can you?

I couldn’t finish my main surprise surprise, but oddly enough I had room for dessert. I restrained myself though and went for the mini pudding and hot drink. With a pot of tea I enjoyed a little piece of vanilla cheesecake and it was a lovely way to finish off.

My mini dessert

My colleagues Bakewell tart and custard looked very tempting but that massive starter had sorted me out. It was a lovely little get together, and the food was what you’d expect from a Chef and Brewer. Nothing fancy, but pleasant and enjoyable.
