Salt House Tapas, Liverpool

It seems I have visited quite a few tapas restaurants in Liverpool recently. This time I took my newly gluten and dairy free husband and we met Kasia, a friend from my Instagram who is also gluten and dairy free in the Salt House Tapas on Hanover Street. We chose this restaurant as it’s gluten and dairy free menus were quite extensive and meant everybody could choose food that they could eat and I could still enjoy my choices from the regular menu.

A lovely interior greets you, with very friendly and helpful staff, who were very careful to check every dish that Steve and Kasia chose. We chatted for that long we had to be asked repeatedly if we were ready to order……

Jamon croquettes

I went for a Rose Sangria and a few ham croquettes to start, winding my husband up as these were always his favourites. He however went all out and chose five dishes to my and Kasias three and what a great selection we chose between us all!

Gluten and dairy free Charcuterie of Serrano ham, chorizo and salchichón and Patatas Bravas. Regular Salt House Hummus (half eaten)
Regular Salt House Hummus, pomegranate and mint pesto, maple caramelised onions and crisp bread

Steve braved Patatas Bravas, another favourite of his, despite the fact the potatoes were fried in the same fryer as gluten containing dishes. Luckily he suffered no ill effects. The hummus I chose was possibly the nicest I’ve ever had. All the bits and pieces that came with it were exquisite and I licked the bowl clean.

Dairy and gluten free chicory and pear salad. Regular Malaga fried fish, with calamari, courgette, tiger prawns, red mullet and aioli.
Regular menu Deep fried Monte Enebro goats cheese with chilli jam and an apple salad

We all loved the little flags that came stuck in the dairy and gluten free dishes, cute but also serving a great purpose. We were also reminded every time a dish was placed on the table whether it was gluten and dairy free or not. I guess it can be quite scary for a restaurant to serve someone with allergies, but these guys were fab. The massive slab of fried goats cheese was very obviously for me though 😂

Dairy and gluten free sizzling prawns cooked in garlic and grilled king scallop served in the shell
Dairy and gluten free fillet of beef with Oyster mushroom

The food was delicious, everyone was catered to, the company was fabulous and we were on time for our train home, before Anfield emptied and everywhere would get busy. Kasia was a font of knowledge for me and Steve and it was just lovely to meet someone I’ve been chatting to online for so long.

I’d definitely recommend this restaurant, it was lovely 🥰 find all the menus including the dairy and gluten free ones here
