The Galley, Ellesmere Port

I adore this small family run restaurant in my little hometown. It sits right on the Manchester Ship Canal and boasts a menu of International as well as British cuisine. We have been on various occasions as a couple, in a group, and I have even been as part of a big Christmas party. They host wine and cheese nights, offer afternoon tea and breakfast and always it seems with a smile.

The Menu

On this particular evening we went with family a few days after new year. Between us I think we had something from every section of the menu. Rather than a starter I shared a pot of olives whilst the others enjoyed soup, black pudding cake and sticky honey sausages. Everyone being quiet whilst they eat is definitely a positive and usually means the food is too good to talk.

Olives appetiser

For mains I enjoyed a beautifully creamy chestnut mushroom risotto. In amongst the rice was asparagus, which I love. Even though it probably wasn’t, after all the indulgence of Christmas it felt healthy. The table was laden with burgers, fish, gammon, onion rings and more risotto and we all ate contentedly.

I however couldn’t resist the dessert menu and chose fluffy pancakes with berries, ice cream and syrup to end the meal with.

Pancakes and berries

In a few weeks we are planning on trying the breakfast here and I know already it will be delightful.
